A Boxing Day To Remember

Spending Christmas in the Uk, our bitch Avondale Pride was in the A5 Coventry Sweepstake today at Coventry. I managed to get 5/2 from Nigel Flowers, and she returned at 2/1f. She flashed from the Traps and was never seriously bothered, winning well. £400 and a trophy for the winner, thank you very much,.
Earlier in the afternoon, I was given a horse to back which won at 13/2. I saw Jazz Messenger win at Thurles ,my local racecourse 9 days ago, without breaking wind, so a nice bet on him at Kempton this afternoon saw him win at 10/1. What a Boxing Day to remember!!!!!!!!!

Coventry Friday 22nd Dec

Returning to the UK for Christmas, I requested my two bitches to run and this was granted. NAMETAB MUMBLES and AVONDALE PRIDE (Napped in the RP ).
I was really looking forward to seeing them again for the first time in 6 months, but the foggy weather has set in and I can hardly see my hand in front of my face. Good luck Sadie and Amber, I will look for the result later on.Well, I was a little disappointed in the results, both being beaten into second place. Glad I didn' tstruggle through the fog!!!!!!

Avondale Pride

Avondale Pride is running from Trap 1 in a graded 625 race at Coventry tonight. She is currently running and winning A6 grade, but although I know this is a 6 bend race, there is an A1 runner in Trap 4. Oh dear!!!! I know Amber will be doing her best, but if its wet in the UK today, the inside will be very difficult to plough through. Well, it was pouring down at Coventry last night, but that didnt stop my little Amber of winning at the second time of asking at this distance. Sent off a 9/2 chance against the 1/2f, she blasted away and maintained the lead all the way to the line. Well done Amber I shall see you next week. Incidentally, her sire was Jamaican Hero, who tragically died in a fire at Zigzag Kennels this week. RIP.

Nametab Mumbles

Nametab Mumbles is running in the first race at Coventry tonight, from Trap 2, in an A10. She has won an A7 at Cov, and is given to win by the Racing Post,. She should do quite easily, IF ONLY SHE WOULD STOP RUNNING INTO TROUBLE AT THE FIRST BEND. Come on Sadie, get your act together for your long suffering owner!!!!
This time she led til coming off the 4th bend, and was beaten into 2nd place. Very frustrating. I feel a home by the fireplace is looming.

Avondale Pride

"Amber " runs in a maiden Open 623 yds at Coventry on Sunday night. This is the first time she has been asked to go over this distance, so its an unknown. She is a real gutsy bitch, who is really consistant, so good luck tomorrow night Amber, wish I was there to see you, but I will have a running commentry on the telephone. She finished 5th after leading for a while. 6 lengths covered the whole pack, so a reasonable run by her.in an Open 623 race.

Nametab Kiwi

Nametab Kiwi goes in the Touhy Stakes at Thurles this Sunday. The weather is forecast to be very windy and raining. Just perfect!!!!!! Cant wait to get to the Pub and have the Craic afterwards. Good luck Bobby. Well, he didnt win his course, but the Hare was turned and he was on it like a flash. Both dogs were pounding away at the Hare, so it would have done him a power of good. This was his first look at a live Hare, and he should run through a brick wall in his next race.

Tonsils First Race

CREAKING BONES
AKA
TONSILS
Hooray, after 3 months of getting this dog fighting fit, he is in his first race at Thurles on Friday 8th Dec. Now, not wishing to be overconfident, he recorded an 18-11 in an unrecorded trial on Tuesday. I think a nice bet will be on its way tomorrow night, and hopefully at decent odds. Well, he won his first race, and led from trap to line. I got 2/1, but not the amount I wanted, and he finished at 4/5f. He ran cleanly and well, opening up a 3 length gap coming out of the 3rd bend, but it was a cold night, and he cramped on the run in. The line came just in time, as by the 5th bend all the other dogs had gone past him. The wait was worth it once again. He is for sale if anyone wishes to contact me.http://www.igb.ie/Greyhounds.aspx?id=9801C93E-23BD-45D0-92EF-C9A9B7180074

Nametab Mumbles

I whelped this bitch, and this picture was taken at around 12 months of age. She comes into season twice each year, so spends a lot of time off the track. However, I expect her to win tonight from Trap 3 in a lowly A10 at Coventry, at 20-12, ----- if she stops running into the backs of dogs in front!!!! . Badly bumped at first bend again, finished last!!!!!!!!!

Stouke Whizz

Unfortunately, this bitch ran badly at the sales trial at Thurles today. She has had the kennel cough, was 3 pounds overweight, hardly any work done with her, and has been suppressed from season, without having a season first.

She has been sent over to UK, to run with Micheal Peterson at Oxford. She will probably need 6-8 weeks rest, then watch her run, and I would say in confidence, win. Micheal will put her up for sale when she has reached somewhere near her proper times. Once again, its just a matter of time. Checked over by George Drake on Wednesday 6th Dec., she was found to have a torn Monkey Muscle, and one or two old injuries. Advised to ultrasound her shoulder, and to rest for 6 weeks. Just what the Doctor ordered. Her 2 sisters both won at Lifford on Friday 1st Dec ( see Sporting Press 7/12/06 )

Shelbourne Park Last Night

Well, it was no OI OI Bobby last night. He moved in from trap 5, got behind a wall of dogs approaching the first bend, and was crowded out of it. That effectively ended his race. Once again he went off favourite.

He will be entered for a Duffers Coursing Stake next week-end, to liven him up a bit, as he has never seen a real Hare yet. The problem seems to be that as he has so often been in front, when he is behind, he dosnt seem to know what way to turn, and gets himself in no end of bother. His card has read 1st,1st,1st, 6th and 6th. Watch this space.

Avondale Pride

This is one of only two bitches I left running at Coventry, when we came to live in Ireland, earlier this year. I purchased her in Feb of 2006, and took her for a few open races, but she came into season. I sent her to Tony Hackett, who is attached to Coventry, and as she had been running so well in grading, he decided to try her in an Open Race at Coventry. She never runs a bad race, and finished 0.75 lengths down on the winner, an A1 , Open race dog from Oxford, trained by Gilly Hepden, winning time of 29.77. Well done to Gilly, and lets hope my little " Amber " runs many more exciting races.

Nametab Kiwi

Just heard that my dog Nametab Kiwi will be running in an A5/A6 race at Shelbourne Park on Friday evening.

Although a middle runner, he is in Trap 5, which I dont think will inconvienience him, nor the fact that he hasnt run for almost 4 weeks, and its his first time around Shebourne Park.
Lets hope I can get a decent price this time.!!!!!!
If you hear the roar " Oi Oi Bobby ", you know that we are on.

Tonsils

TONSILS

No, thats the kennel name I have given to this dog, as he had his tonsils out a few weeks back, and we also suspect he had a virus, hence the time given to him to get back into training. He is a big unraced dog of some 82 pounds, and once again, I feel the wait is worthwhile.

He had his first spin over 2 bends around Thurles 10 days ago and recorded a 18.60. Last Thursday he had another 2 bend solo and recorded an 18.20, so he is obviously going the right way.

An official 4 bender this week, and then he will be entered in his first race, where I hope to have a touch on him. Needless to say, I am not revealing his name at this stage, but watch this space.

Final of The Woodsgift Magic Novice Stake

Well, after winning his first round, and semi final in the fastest times of the heats, the Final night was here. NAMETAB KIWI drawn in Trap 2, was expected to make it a 3 timer, but it was not to be, see his card on http://www.igb.ie/Greyhounds.aspx?id=NAMETAB%20KIWI
The Layers had him at Even money favourite, with the next being 3/1. At Trap rise, he didnt quite hit the lids, and all 6 dogs went down to the first bend, within a length of each other. The writing was on the wall, as NAMETAB KIWI was badly baulked, and was lucky to stay on his legs. This effectively finished his race, and try as hard as he could, he could not get back into contention.

For a dog that had won both his official trails and both his initial opening races, plus 8 unrecorded trials where he was never beaten, we were to say the least a little deflated.

Never mind, thats dog racing, and he is sound this morning, so will be placed in another race in due course. Congratulations to the winner of the Stake, Pat Daltons , Screen Title.

Worth The Wait---Part 2

In only his second ever race, in the semi-finals Heat 2 of The Woodsgift Magic Open Novice 525yds Stake at Thurles on Saturday evening, NAMETAB KIWI, once again won his heat in 29.71, on a track that was generally thought to be -30 slow. He was from an unfavourable Trap draw, being Trap 1, as he moved off to middle from that Trap, but the Books still had him at 1/2 f. He had to show enormous courage to shake off the challenge of Active Woods from Trap 6, and he soon opened up a lead coming off the second bend, and continued to run on strongly to the line, beating his rivals by 4 lengths. He is now in the Final of the Stake next Saturday, 4th November, from Trap 2.

Worth The Wait

It was well worth the wait with our Puppy NAMETAB KIWI, running in his first race, an unraced stake at Thurles last night. He opened at evens, and was soon 4/6, prohibited odds, but I had to lump on him, as we knew what he could do. He subsequently won his heat by 13 lengths!!!!!!!! in a time of 29.53, which was the fastest time of the 3 heats. He is in Trap 1 on Saturday, which isnt favourable, as he moves off, but he has trapped faster from that trap, in his trials.

Washed Out

With all hopes high for a good run from NAMETAB KIWI, the meeting was abandoned before the first race could be run at Thurles, due to the malfunction of the Hare. This was because of the incessant rain for the past 3-4 hours. The Greyhounds were in the Traps for the first race, when the Hare malfunctioned behind the starting Traps. The Stewards had no alternative but to re-arrange the meeting for next Tuesday 24th October.

Puppys First Run

Its been a long wait, but my puppy NAMETAB KIWI is finally ready for his first race at Thurles on Saturday night. This is an unraced Novice Stake, but he has been showing such good pace during his trials, the trainer, Liam McCormack, thinks a lot of him, and so he must take his debut chance in an Open Race.

Bred by John Moyles of Nenagh, I purchased him in January 2006, without even seeing him. Reared from Nov 2005 by Martin Tucker in Roscommon, who also thought this dog could be a bit special. We shall see on Saturday night.
